Room Need Something? Look Up!

You may have your floors covered in area rugs and the finest flooring, your walls are done "just so" with your art works arranged and halfsie tables up against the walls and you may have sprinkled a spot of bright color throughout and made a cozy little nook for your holiday entertaining. But, there is a glaring, undecorated, very plain ceiling in your room and you aren't sure what you can do to liven it up short of having a mural painted on it!

Actually there are a number of solutions you can do to liven up a ceiling area and bring it in as part of a room. First of all, ceilings do not have to be white. You can change your ceiling color to a coordinated color and see your room become even warmer and cozier. This trick is for larger rooms only as the lack of a lighter ceiling can make a small room seem even smaller.

No matter what the size of your room, you can benefit through the use of either ceiling medallions which lend a truly classic look to a room as they just add a raised motif to your ceiling. Another great look for rooms large or small comes in the form of ornate ceiling tins. These beautiful tins are hand pounded and look fantastic in a runner row through the ceiling or cover your entire ceiling in a pattern of your choosing.

Those are just a few tips to liven up your ceiling area, use them and watch your room transform!

Another Clutter Solution

We all know that clutter happens. You can move into a house or apartment with the best of intentions not to let it get cluttered up and it seems like you set one little thing down in an out of the way spot and it turns into a cluttered room overnight.

If you want to cut down on the clutter in your life, you'll have to quell any pack rat tendencies you possess first of all and then you need to go around your room and make decisions on what to keep and what not to keep.

Some people have a psychological need to see their stuff. They do not particularly need an item, they just need to see it out in order to know it is theirs. A good solution if you have this problem is to use mesh containers to keep your items in. The mesh will allow whatever is in the containers to be easily visible, however it will keep your items organized and out of the way until you need them. A three tier corner rack is a wise use of space. They can usually be wall mounted and will hold a multitude of items, as well as being food safe for use as a fruit basket that can be mounted on the wall.

A solution to your clutter issue can be found easily when you make putting your items into containers a top priority, it will be very hard for the clutter monster to reappear in your home.

The Power of Candles

Never underestimate the sheer power of candles. They can take the most austere and boring of rooms and turn them from a room that feels like it belongs in a museum to a comfy, cozy gathering spot for your favorite group of friends and yourself.

Candles are also great because you can give yourself a little break on your electric bill just for using the beauty of a candle to light your room. One trick to get more light out of a candle is to place your candle holder in front of a mirror. The burning candle will reflect off the mirror and in most cases will shine a little extra light into the room.

Having several candles around a room will create a soft mood and a delicate, even light throughout the interior. Using candles on holders is also a good idea because they are very easy to move to the areas of a room where you exactly want the candle light to shine.

If you're looking for a great addition to your room, consider adding a pair or two of iron candle holders finished in an antique white. the antique white will look excellent with any decor from Shabby Chic to French Country to Art Deco, all of these styles will meld perfectly with these candle holders. They come in two sizes, small and medium and measure eleven and nineteen inches in height. A mish-mash of four or more candle holders in two different sizes will make a bold statement around your room while only adding soft, cozy candlelight.

Adding a Pet to Your Family?

If you're feeling like you're about to give in to the ever-present asking of your kids to finally get a dog, make sure you know what you're getting into. If you haven't had a dog in your family in many years or you've never owned a dog, there are a few points you need to consider.

Dogs are social creatures and need companionship. If your family is so wrapped up in work, school and extra-curricular activities, you may not have time for a dog. When dogs get bored, they tend to get destructive and you might wind up thinking that you have a bad dog that misbehaves when you merely have a lonely dog that needs attention. Make sure that your family will have enough time to devote to a dog.

If you honestly look at your budget and see that you have the extra money that will be necessary to spend on the yearly vaccinations and good food a dog needs - you are probably making a good decision to add a dog to your family.

Your kids can learn responsibility by having the job of feeding and watering the dog. Grooming is a great way to form a bond between your dog and yourself. Having a bond with your dog will go miles towards making training much easier.

When you choose to add a dog to your family, make sure he has his own space to sleep in. Granted he'll wind up in bed with yourself or your kids on many nights but he will also love having a place all his own to curl up and snooze.
