Bring Summer Serenity To Your Home

When it comes to getting into the spirit of summer, there are several ways that you can help by dressing up the exterior of your home. Whether you have a garden or not, there are plenty of great accents that you can use to make an ordinary outdoor space look extraordinary. Even if you do not have all kinds of room around your home, there are little things that can be done to miraculously transform the space that you do have into a serene and tranquil summer sanctuary.

Certainly, you will have to do some watering of all of your favorite plants outside. Did you know that you can even add a little bit of style where your garden hose is concerned? A Garden Tool Hose Guide is a fabulous accent that is both pretty and functional. This great piece has a cute little garden design with a fork and a spade and it is crafted out of sturdy cast iron so you can be sure that it will really be able to stand the test of time. All you have to do is implant this hose guide into the soil in your desired spot and you can use it to be sure that your garden hose does not get all tangled up while you are walking and watering.

You may even find that this is such a cool garden accent that you will want to pick one up as a gift for one of your friends or family members. Such accents are a wonderful way to spruce up your outdoor setting for summertime.

Lighting - Get it Right

Lighting can make or break your entire mood for your room. If you have a cozy French Country décor flowing through your room, you do not want blaring, bright lights. Keep the coziness of the room with softer lighting, use 60-watt bulbs and use thicker shades to allow light into the room but nothing too bright or glaring. Go for lamps designed in a Balustrade or chubby urn design. The look of your lamp is as important as the amount of light you allow into a room.

Bright lights don't make a romantic feel in a room either. If you're going for a romantic feel for your room, think soft; think of the gentle glow of a fireplace. Think not much brighter than candlelight. Even better opt for the soft glow of candles around a room.

Another consideration where lighting can completely undo your décor scheme will be if you have gone for an Eames style or minimalist look. A lamp constructed using columns or other straight design will fit in nicely as you want clean and simple lines and this is one case in which you can get away with bright skylights or even a brightly lit floor lamp with a high wattage bulb.

If you'd like to go for a purely whimsical design in a lamp, look towards something with a playful design such as a Star Lamp. This fun lamp has a sturdy base with a gold star making up the middle of the lamp.

It's easy to get the lighting right if you just consider the feel of your room first.

If you are like most homeowners or even apartment dwellers, you are well aware of how difficult it can be to find extra space in your kitchen. Any time that you are thinking of cooking a big meal or putting on a dinner party, you always feel as though you never have enough counter space. You could always use a little bit of extra space when you are trying to prepare foods and set food out when you are getting things ready. When you stop to think about it, you can probably add the extra space that you need with the simple addition of a helpful kitchen island.

You would be amazed at how wonderful a kitchen island can be, not only for any special dinner preparations that you may have, but also for day to day use. A kitchen island can be just right, when you need to chop up foods or maybe even when you need some extra counter space so that you can knead bread. The kitchen island also have a great galvanized tin top so that you will have easier cleanup after you are finished.

For even more help, there are incredible pull drawers where you can store any extra utensils that you need when you are cooking. You will also find the great cutting board to be extremely useful, and they even slide back into their own cubbie holes. One thing is guaranteed, you will think that a kitchen island is almost like having an extra pair of hands!

Being Your Own Interior Designer

Do not be intimidated about designing your own room. There is a secret many interior designers use and you can use it to build an entire room that will look like you hired a professional designer to decorate your room. Imagine your pride when people compliment you on your choice in décor and you can smile slyly and say, "Why thank you, I designed this room myself".

Often, an interior decorator will take inspiration from a single item in the room and make a theme around that one item. It can be something as simple as a vase, a painting or even a piece of furniture. Look at the basics of the room does it have one door or two? Lots of windows or just a few? All of these elements can be incorporated into the "feel" of the room.

If you have never decorated a room before, start simple. First of all decide what you want the feel of your room to be. If you want a cozy feel, a great way to start is by choosing a larger piece of furniture and using that piece as your starting point and a place to build outwards from. Take a simple occasional table, and build from that. On your table place items that you want to use to set the mood for your room such as a small plant or an elegant little piece of art such as a small statue or a miniature painting on an easel. Then, work outwards from your table in all directions and add a small area rug, a big overstuffed comfy chair, a matching sofa, large fluffy pillows and you will be on your way to making a cozy room. This mood setting works especially well in a room with few windows and even better with a fireplace. Don't look at lack of windows as a hindrance in a room, play on that feature and use it make a cozy nook where you can sit with friends and have a cozy getaway from the world.
