Wet Your Feathered Friends' Whistles

Summertime can be a rough time for your feathered friends to find water. Birds have heartbeats that beat very quickly and their metabolisms are very high; consequently they get dehydrated very quickly in the summer and spend a good deal of time searching for water to both drink and bathe in.

If you would like to attract a diverse group of birds to your home, incorporate a birdbath into your front yard or garden area. Once the birds have ascertained the birdbath is a safe place to be, they will mostly appear in the mornings and later in the afternoons but you should see quite a diverse gathering of birds appearing to drink and during the hotter days, bathe in a your birdbath.

There are a number of styles of birdbaths to choose from. Sculpted wrought iron that will last for years with either a leg style base or a flat base or a classically styled Roman-style birdbath will look elegant in any garden area.

Just place your birdbath in a shaded area and if you like to bird watch place it in view of one of your windows. A few times a week or as needed, simply spray water into your birdbath and with the shallow design, the older water can be easily washed out and new water filled up for your feathered friends to enjoy a nice cool drink or even a quick bath to escape the hot summer days.

The Humble Doormat

It's the little things that add up and count when you're designing the look and feel of your rooms and even the humble doormat can be used to add charm to your décor.

If you're going to add a doormat to your home, don't go for the flimsy, fall-apart rubber doormats from the dollar store, make every piece and purchase count. If you're going to add a piece to your design, ask yourself if it is well made and if it will last through many uses. If you can answer yes, add it!

A wrought iron doormat may very well be the last doormat you ever have to buy. Good looking, functional and built to last, these scroll worked doormats give an air of elegance to any door you place them in front of. Made from cast iron, these doormats have a surprising amount of details within.

Making Your Summer Look All Your Own

One of the biggest keys to having a unique décor in your home or garden area is to add personal touches that make the look all your own. A good way to add your own flavor to your decorating scheme is to find an impact piece that really speaks to you and add it to your design. Statues in the garden area or in your room itself speak volumes.

A great example is the classically styled Summer Statue that is done in the Roman style of statues. This piece is cast in stone and hand finished in an antique green to give it a truly aged look. It is made to emulate the classic Roman garden statues and depicts a cherub of summer holding a bunch of grapes up to his mouth in celebration of the abundance of the season of summer.

This piece would look equally good used in an indoor room, especially in an area where you have plants. Used in this way, this piece will lend an air of elegance to any décor it is used to enhance. Another fun way to use statues is to incorporate sets into your design. Along with the Summer statue there are statues in the same style made to emulate the seasons of Fall, Winter and Spring. Using them around the four corners of your garden area will make a lovely addition to your outdoor area. Used indoors to quietly accent the four corners of a room, these statues will bring a fun and stylish addition to your interior design.

Revive Family Night at Your House

With their busy day to day schedules, many people have lost the fine art of spending time with their families. A great way to get back in touch with your family is to have everyone set aside one night a week for family night.

With work schedules, school schedules, extra-curricular activities, clubs, volunteer work and more; many families have lost touch with just being together. Gathering the family around the dining room table is a great way to promote togetherness and communication with your family members.

You might even consider making the table itself where you gather special. The Patch Wood Dining Table is a very out of the ordinary table that is hand constructed from reclaimed wood. A mish-mash of hardwoods are incorporated into a patchwork design that make one very unique and sturdy table. Each piece is framed in a patina-finished steel for an aged look that is both cozy and charming. This table comes in three sizes ranging from the small which measures 50-inches by 36-inches; medium which is 72-inches by 36-inches and large that measures in at 84-inches by 36-inches. With these choices, there is a table size that will fit your family perfectly.

You don't have to just serve a meal for the family to gather around; you can also use family night to play a game. You can get out an old favorite board game such as "Life" or "Monopoly" or you can play "Trivial Pursuit" against one another. Some families play card games and others just have a yummy dessert and spend time just talking. No matter how you choose to spend your time together, reinvent family night to suit your family's individual needs and make time for each other again.

A Little Accent Here and There

If you're looking to add a little accent to your room and you don't want to change a lot of items or you already love your décor and you just feel the room needs "something"; consider adding an accent piece.

You can soften the mood of a room or bring an entirely different feel to a room through the use of an accent piece. They can be used to tie together a look and bring certain items together. For example, if you have a mostly French Country Décor and you fell in love with a Victorian-style table, using an accent piece with elements of both styles could make your entire room flow smoothly and allow you to incorporate both looks seamlessly.

A good way to add an accent to a room is to use your wall space first. Using an accent item over a piece of furniture you want to bring attention to or highlight certain colors of is an old decorating trick. The Botanical 6 Pane Art Panels are a great item to add for this purpose. This piece is not too large, not too small and will bring soft hints of neutral colors to your room that will neatly match nearly any décor.

Initially the flowers under the panes look like classically pressed blossoms, however upon closer look they give the impression of old-time lithographic pieces. This is a great piece to add to your room. If you're looking to bring your room together or you just want to add an artful touch to your décor, an accent piece will do the trick!
