Accent Pieces: The Little Things

Most room designs begin with a focus on the larger aspects such as furniture and color schemes, but your accent pieces are the little touches that can put a finish on your design. Ignore them, and the design never quite reaches fruition.

Let's begin by looking at a few accent pieces. These are the items that when spread around a room add visual interest and flavor. Perhaps a nick-nack on the mantelpiece or a clock on the wall. These kinds of accent pieces can fill up unusually empty spaces in your design plan and give it some flare.

Accents Architectural has many unusual accent pieces guaranteed to add charm and interest to your room. For example, our Rosette Box accent pieces can add functional interest to your room. Constructed from salvaged bead board with rosettes, these box accent pieces can be used to hold flowers, or candles. They also make attractive mail holders. The rustic look of these accent pieces actually fits in with nearly any design style, including modern. Just that small touch of nostalgia only adds to the impact of modern lines and hues.

One of our favorite accent pieces comes from our Eiffel Tower Collection. The Eiffel Tower Clock makes a dramatic statement in any room, and it's design is as timeless as Paris itself. This lovely accent piece can enhance nearly any design style, but is especially effective in designs that incorporate black and clean cut lines.

Take some time to browse through our website where you'll find wonderful accent pieces that can help you put just the right finishing touches in your home.

Versatile Containers

When you can think of unusual ways to use everyday items, you can create dramatic interest in your design, and containers are the perfect items to work with.

When you think containers, think versatility. For example, take a look at our Antique Look Washtub containers. Yes, visions of women from yesteryear scrubbing clothes does come to mind. Now look again. Can you picture this elegant container filled with ice, a bottle of bubbly and a plate of caviar? Look once more. Now it's filled with rolled up bath towels and sitting on the floor next to your claw foot bathtub.

How about our Galvanized Buckets? Simple farm implements, or stylish containers to hold your fireplace tools close at hand? Picture these containers on a counter top filled with your favorite kitchen utensils. Or maybe these containers could be filled with fresh cut flowers from the garden and used as country kitchen centerpieces? The only limit to the uses of these containers is your own imagination.

An Onion Corner Rack doesn't have to hold just onions. These containers could also be used to store fresh fruits, and potatoes as well. But you can take a completely decorative route and use the containers to hold dried or silk flower arrangements, incoming mail waiting to be sorted, or family photos.

Using everyday containers in ways other than what they were originally designed for can have a delightful effect on your room design. The next time you look at containers, think versatility and see what your imagination suggests to you.

Enhance Design With A Fireplace Screen

Few architectural accents contribute to the look and feel of a home the way a fireplace does, and your fireplace screen plays a big role. Whether you're roasting chestnuts on an open fire, or warming your feet, a fireplace seems to convey a sense of romance, and is the heart of any room that has one.

Each fireplace seems to have a character all of it's own, and your choice of fireplace screen can really enhance the effect a fireplace has on the overall design of your room. Accents Architectural offers a lovely collection of fireplace screens made from salvaged tin ceiling tiles. These tiles are hammered in ornate designs and make useful yet truly unique screening to accent your fireplace.

The Canterbury Fireplace Screen is three separate hammered tin tiles hinged together on free standing legs. The overall pattern on this fireplace screen is a circular medallion, and very pleasing to the eye. Decorators will be thrilled to know that this fireplace screen will match virtually any color scheme because it is available in over 43 finishes, including choices like Antique green, citrus, and crabapple.

Our single Tin Panel Fireplace Screen stands free on wrought iron scroll legs. The hammered design on this fireplace screen is an old fashioned coat of arms. It comes in several finishes and makes quite a conversation piece as well as a screen.

Accents Architectural has other fireplace screens and mantels in our collection. If you are looking for just the right piece to complete your room design, we are sure to have something exciting for you.

Shed A Little Lighting

Why bother decorating a room, if your lighting is inadequate? You'll miss all those lovely details you so painstakingly chose, and you won't be able to enjoy the true colors of your design. Lighting is indispensable.

Lighting goes a long way in determining the ultimate feeling of any room design. Low lighting usually creates a more romantic, intimate atmosphere. High lighting can be used in work areas where you really need to see what you're doing. Lighting can also be used to create subtle boundaries within a room design and throw accent on particular pieces, or areas.

Lighting in all it's functional forms can also serve artistic purposes as well. While track lighting is not unusually attractive, it fits well with ultra modern designs. Other forms of lighting such as lamps in various styles can actually reinforce your design style and become focal points all by themselves.

For example, if your home is decorated in a French Country, Chabby Chic, or full out Country Charm style, a Birdhouse Table Lamp would make a wonderful compliment to the room. This unique lighting fixture conveys the country theme as well as a sense of whimsy and eccentricity. Just the touch of humor needed to keep your design theme from becoming over bearing.

If you're looking for lighting that can double as a dramatic focal point, how about an Eiffel Tower Lamp? This lighting accent offers ornate design, yet still possesses the clean lines most contemporary design styles favor.

Lighting can make or break a room, so be sure to take it into account when planning the ideal room design.

Message Boards: Personalized Communications

In a world dominated with electronic media, where cell phones, televisions and e-mail have overpowered more antiquated forms of communication, message boards still rule in the family home.

Okay, maybe you don't think of message boards as a hot spot of communication, but think about it. Junior needs Dad to drive him to soccer practice this afternoon. Post it on the message board. Little Susie has an orthodontist appointment at 3:00 PM on Thursday. Post it on the message board too. Our Beaded Chalk Boards are the perfect message boards for the busy family. Changing schedules can be quickly erased and updated.

Ceiling Tin Chalk Boards are message boards with a touch more elegance. These message boards are created from salvaged tin tiles and have a space to include a photo. You can stamp this message board with a picture of yourself, your favorite pet, your children or that special someone.

Working a little too hard and missing out on valuable time connecting with your spouse? Why not leave an invitation to dinner and an evening of romance on the message board. Your own handwriting leaves a far more personal impression than a cold hard e-mail. Our Magnet Message Boards come in a number of artistic and romantic designs that are a perfect backdrop for arranging those personal liaisons.

Message boards maintain a personal touch in an otherwise increasingly impersonal world. Perhaps your kitchen could use it's own message boards to help you keep in closer touch with the ones you love most?
