Columns Add To Your Decor

Using columns can add so much to the decor of any room in your home. Some designers refer to columns as an exclamation point of your room's decor, and they definitely make a statement, usually it is considered more low key.

Columns come in many styles to suit any decor that you have. A Salomonic Column with its gentle spirals add a delicate elegance to your room. Not only are columns great support pieces, and cornerstones of great architectural design, the shorter types of columns, also called pillars, can be used to display favorite pieces of art, a plant or other favorite item in your decor.

Columns don't always have to be used inside your home, they can add a lot of sparkle to your garden, where it is a tall elegant column with a lovely urn on top with a plant residing within or a gazebo with an elegant dome supported by 4 sturdy columns will become the centerpiece of your garden and a real conversation starter.

If your space is small or you just don't have the room to accommodate a column in your decor, there is even a solution for you: fabric columns. The Corinthian Fabric Column is a grand illusion of design, Each set contains one top and one bottom piece. Stretch your fabric panels between the two to give the illusion of columns. Visitors will do a double take when they see this and since it is flat on your wall, you lose no decorating space.

Ceiling Medallions - Decorating To The Top

Once you've decorated your walls, doors, floors, and added accessories, don't forget your ceilings! Ceiling medallions add a quiet elegance to your decor by simply being there or centered around a light fixture, remember ceiling medallions are made for enhancing a ceiling either on their own or around a light fixture, they are not made to support a fixture of any kind.

Ceiling medallions extend the height of a small room, and can make a large room seem cozy. They come in a huge selection of designs ranging from large and round, to square, Grecian, small and intricate to plain and simple and best of all, they are easy as pie to install.

Once you've chosen your ceiling medallion, simply paint your medallion before installing your ceiling medallion. Be certain not to use a lacquer based paint.

Most ceiling medallions will come with a center hole pre-drilled, however if yours does not, you will need to drill a hole in yours if you will be installing around a light fixture so you can pull any wiring and/or small bolts through.

To hang your medallion, simple slip the medallion over the hanger bar or chain depending on the type you bought, simply secure the medallion. If you're putting the ceiling medallion to offset a light fixture, simply pull the wires through before securing.

Your ceiling medallion will be in place, all you have to do now is spackle the areas where any nails or screws are sunk in and use caulk that can be painted on the aras where the medallion meets the ceiling. Prime if necessary, and paint to match your decor and you will have a beautiful, functional addition to your room.

Try a Trendy Pressed Tin Backsplash

A recent trend in kitchen decorating is to apply a pressed tin back splash behind the counter, over the sink. Beautiful and durable, this architectural accessory makes a great accent to update the look of your kitchen.

Many people purchase older homes with the plan of working to renovate them or update their appearance. One of the problems is that older homes, while filled with charm and character, are difficult to work with as they have settled over the years. This settling creates uneven work areas. You can't count on having straight lines to neatly fit your work into.

A pressed tin back splash works well as no special tools are needed to install it. Generally, liquid nails do the trick, and a little molding hides the edges that don't quite match up. With such easy installation, a pressed tin back splash can be a quick fix to a decorating dilemma.

When updating and renovating a kitchen, older homes can prevent quite a challenge. But the challenge is part of the fun. A pressed tin back splash is a great way to improve the look of your kitchen while adding a durable, washable surface.

Not only does a tin back splash fit into a renovation of an older home, it looks great in newer construction as well. The tin has a great look that fits in beautifully with country kitchens, as it can bring a relaxed, casual look to the room. On the other hand, a tin back splash is right out of the Victorian era, so it can lend an air of sophistication and detail to an otherwise boring room.

With no messy caulk to install and eventually end up stained and dingy, a tin back splash is decorative and durable. They are easy to wipe down, and resist staining. Everyone looking for a fresh appearance for their kitchen should consider installing a pressed tin back splash.
